Mommies v. McDonalds

I just read an article in The Guardian where a California mom is suing McDonald's for using free toys to entice her children into wanting their Happy Meals. "I object to the fact that McDonald's is getting into my kids' heads without my permission and actually changing what my kids want to eat," she said.

I gotta say.  What the hell?!  Hey California Mom do you live in this country?  People are trying to sell us things we don't need all day everyday.  It's called MARKETING and McDonald's is not the only one who does it.  There is an entire industry that gets paid to convince you and your entire family to buy things the may or may not need. Also did your child suddenly get their own transportation and income?  No?  Ok, then you're giving in to their begging and pleading and buying them the Happy Meals so they can get the toys.  McDonald's has done this kind of thing for years.  I remember wanting to get a Happy Meal so that I could collect the Smurf glasses--my sisters and I were all over that(the toys were way cooler back in the day).  My sisters and I weren't allowed to eat McDonald's every day and we weren't obese.  We had real parents, who ensured that we ate healthy and only had fast food on rare occasions.  We also didn't plant our asses in front of the TV, computer, or gaming systems all day everyday.  We ran around outside and got exercise.

Moral of the story, maybe you should stop blaming McDonald's, if you don't want your kids to eat it--don't let them. Talk to them about why it's not good to eat that kind of food all the time.  I don't think suing a fast food chain is the answer to a lack of parenting.
