83rd Annual Academy Awards

5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
So, I'm starting my Oscar night with the Oscar.com Red Carpet Live. The hosts are leaving a little (a lot) to be desired, but otherwise they are getting some lovely shots. Check it out!

I may be alone here, but I think JHud's hair is WAY too much. My neck hurts just looking at her - hopefully she's got some minions to hold her head up for her. Having said that, I must say she looks freakin' amazing. I want to rock a red dress like that!

So, my hopes for this award show? 1. That if Melissa Leo wins, she gets her thank you script together and rocks it on the mic. 2. Can Natalie Portman please look amazing? Pregnant doesn't mean tent dress. Honey, you're tiny, show us what sexy pregnant looks like please!!!

SOURCE: Idea go
6:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Uh oh, conflict - do I stick with Oscar.com or switch over to the official broadcast? I think I'll mute Oscar.com and watch the official broadcast (the hosts have got to be better, right?).

Mila Kunis is killing it in the purple!!! Has she had a fashion misstep this awards season? Her dress is so romantic and her face is gorgeous.

Hailee Steinfeld looks so appropriately adorable. I love when young actresses look age appropriate.

Jesse Eisenberg. Looks nervous. Is dorky cute. Frankly a lot shorter than he appears in The Social Network. If I was younger (and shorter), I'd totally have a crush.

Amy Adams...looks fine. She has looked better. I'm not quite sure what I don't love about it...maybe it'll come to me later.

Do you ever wonder how the stars don't go bat sh*t crazy answering the same freakin' questions over and over and over again? I've been bouncing back and forth between Oscar.com and the official broadcast - seriously, some straight up repeats.

Okay, I love Annette Benning, but if she wins, I will be very disappointed. I don't think this is her award winning film (frankly I don't think The Kids Are All Right should win anything at all - didn't hate it, but it's not an awards film). Sorry, Kevin Spacey, but I kinda disagree.

Is it me or does Melissa Leo's dress look super stiff. As a visual image I'm kinda digging it, but I feel pain looking at her. How does she sit in that thing?

PS22 Chorus. What a great group of kids. (p.s. Krista Smith, kids aren't idiots. Stop patronizing them.)

6:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
The Mominees bit is kinda cute. Almost wish there was more time for it (and more moms participated) - it's running past at light speed.

Mark Ruffalo's wife is kinda pulling a Cate Blanchett (not a today Cate, but I swear Cate has rocked this look before). I'm not dogging her, she looks good.

Scarlett Johansson. Gotta say that I'm not sold on her look. I think I like the dress, but I don't love the styling.
Okay, this Rico kid is super cute. "How much do you bench press?" Cute.

Has it really been like 10 years since American Beauty? Wow, Annette, you are totally making me feel old.

Anne - No. No. No. No. What is with the light fringe around your face? Play to your strengths, you look amazing with dark hair. On a slight tangent, it is so clear that her archival Valentino is not meant for sitting. I mean she looks fabu, but I wonder if they wheeled her out to her chat with Tim Gunn and if they'll wheel her back.

Whoa, Reese Witherspoon, in profile you are looking very "mature." I'm not really loving the front on view either. Bleh. And have you always had such a baby girl kinda voice? Maybe the hair is being pulled back a little too tight.

Some thoughts: If the Oscar Red Carpet is any indication, prom will be a sea of red and purple this year. Most people can find a shade on those two colors that will work for them. Thank goodness silver isn't this year's Oscar color - -it's not for everybody.

[took a break. girl's gotta eat.]

And the show begins...
Okay, the Inception opening was pretty good. "Alec likes me to narrate his dreams." Ha, ha! Awesome. And a back to the future reference - outstanding! So far, so good...hope they can keep it up.

Dress Number 2 for Anne. I like it better than Number 1, I like her hair way better. Uh oh, the opening is losing a little bit of steam...

Hmm...a lesbian/Toy Story 3 joke. Not sure who wrote that one, but it didn't really work AT ALL.

Okay, Melissa Leo, don't screw this up. (really, really, truly, truly, wow...seriously you have to do better than that). You are an actress, memorize a thank you script for eff's sake. Did you just swear, really, this isn't The Fighter anymore, it's the Oscars - leave the street style at home.

Seeing Justin and Mila together makes me think Oscars might have missed to boat on young and hip. I love Anne (meh, on Franco), but she never struck me as young and hip (and less so the more she keeps saying it).

[um, really the new Dancing with the Stars cast reveal gets commercial air time during the OScars like it's a big deal. Hate to break it to you folks, but you are has-beens (or why-are-you-heres) trying to become used-to-bes.]

8:12 p.m.
Anne is still in Dress Number 2. I think it would be in her best interest to change more frequently, it would give us all something interesting to focus on during the banality that is this year's hosting.

8:24 p.m.
Okay, the Hugh Jackman "On My Own" performance wins a Anne a couple of points back. (Oh, yeah she's in Dress Number 3 - a tux, cigarette/matchstick pants or whatever you call them) Franco, on the other hand, in the Madonna "Material Girl" dress - Wow. Special. Two things I noticed about him in the dress 1) he stopped squinting for a couple of minutes and 2) he finally looked manly.

I'm hit/miss with Russell Brand. Apparently when he is paired with Helen Mirren, it's comedy gold. As for her dress, I'm not locked on the color, but the style is amazing for her. I want to look as good as she does now.

Poor Melissa, she's never gonna live her Oscar f-bomb down. Not the legacy you want to leave.

8:41 p.m.
I'm reserving judgment on Dress Number 4 because I kinda missed it in the first pass at it, but I can say unequivocally that I am not digging the goofy braided updo.

9:19 p.m.
Dress Number 5 = Gold fringe. Oh my gawd, did she just shimmy? Personal moment indeed. Is this from Cher's closet? There are too many questions.

9:27 p.m.
Can you just feel the room begging Billy Crystal to finish out the show? I think I can.

9:34 p.m.
Oscar tweets have been ahead of the telecast all night. Sometimes I knew the winner before they had even finished reading the category. I should have been trying to impress my friends all night. Darn.

9:41 p.m.
Is Franco a robot? Seriously, how is this guy an actor. As for Dress Number 6, The pre-show red dress was better, this one was kinda meh.

And, upon closer inspection, JHud's boobs looked like they were being held hostage. Wow, what did they ever do to deserve such punishment?

Hmm, not sold on Gwyneth as a singer. She was cute enough for a silly bit in Glee, but as a soloist on the huge Oscar stage, her voice seemed so unimportant.

10:17 p.m.
And that's how you do pregnant style! Natalie looks great and she's totally rocking the pregnancy boobs. I wonder if she likes them. I'm not 100% on the hair, but I'm so happy she finally looks fantastic.

Dress Number 7. It's blue and sheeny. And that's all I'm gonna say about that for right now.

10:32 p.m.
Dress Number 8. We are literally seeing these dresses for like 15 seconds. What's the point of the dress change anymore?

Last thoughts - 1. Franco, quit bogarting the mike. 2. Can't believe they kept the kids for last (I guess it's not too late there, but still). 3. They should have gone for quality and not quantity for Anne. Some of the looks were lovely. Others, not so much. 4. I think paired with someone else, Anne might have worked as a host. Franco was useless. 5. The scripting for Sandra Bullock and the Oscar for Best Actor nominees was nearly pitch perfect. Her delivery was fantastic too.
