Tonight I met my friend John downtown for an after work drink. We hadn't seen each other since before the holidays, so it was nice to just sit and sip our cocktails and catch up. The time came for us both to take off for the evening and we requested our bill. As two non-dating adults, we split the check--since John had cash and I didn't, I put the entire amount on my credit card. I thought it would be handy to have cash to pay the parking ramp at the end of the evening. I handed my credit card and bill back to our bartender to close out the tab. When he returned to us, he handed John the receipt and thanks. What the hell?! I reached over for the bill and immediately our bartender scrambled to put it in my hand and give me the "thank you".
I don't get it--there are two of us and one of us is male, so obviously he paid the bill? What is this 1950? I can NOT have been the first gal to "pick-up" the entire check. Not to mention, I gave you the credit card!!! The only redeeming thing about this entire debacle was that John was just as surprised as I was. So, instead of a "guy thing" I'm going to call a "dumb bartender moment". I just hope that I don't have to experience this again--my eyes have rolled so far into the back of my head over this one I might not survive a second incident without going blind.
My dear friend, I experience this ALL the time. It pisses me off something fierce. At least you got a lame correction attempt. I rarely get that.
ReplyDeleteIt does NOT make me feel better that you're experiencing this. Ridiculous.
