Week 3: Good Apple & Bad Apple

Good Apple: DADT Repeal
Evan Vucci/Associated Press
There's not much more we can say about this other than . . . it's about effing time! Although we know that there's still a ways to go until there are equal rights under the law for all, this was a very significant step in the right direction.

Wanna make a difference on a local level? Check out Project 515. Their goal: to ensure that same-sex couples and their families have equal rights and considerations under Minnesota law.

Bad Apples: Stupid People
Normally we just have one bad apple, but today we've got a few. What the eff is wrong with people these days?

Duy Hoang - Mr. Hoang just had to go back inside and get that $10 coupon he forgot for a little more holiday shopping. While he was inside, someone stole his car with his 11 month old son in it!!! Luckily the kid was found about an hour and a half later - left on the street in Maplewood, still strapped to his car seat. Listen folks, NEVER (never) leave a baby unattended in an unlocked running car. Honestly, the fact that we even have to say that is fully ridiculous. This guy risked his son's life for an effing $10 coupon (turns out it was expired) - totally worth it, right?

Sandra Bathke - So, a nice young man offers you a ride to the bank. How do you repay someone for such a thoughtful act? Maybe some homemade cookies? A lovely thank you card? Well, if you're Ms. Bathke, you get him arrested. Yes, you read that right - arrested! Ms. Bathke decided to rob the bank and guess who looked like her getaway driver? Her poor unsuspecting good Samaritan was handcuffed and hauled to jail. The cops have since cleared him, but the court of public perception isn't always as quick. Seriously, what is wrong with the world?

Kuryetta Young - Her 14 year old son gets charged with raping a NOMI resident. The evidence - his used condom (quick thinking victim!). How did the cops know the condom was his? A month after the alleged rape (back in June), the son became a convicted offender of another crime. He had to submit a state-required DNA sample. Guess what it matched?  Anyway, Ms. Young maintains the victim approached her son, proposing a trade for sex. "He said, 'Mom, the lady told me that if I can have some drugs, she going to do this (have sex) with me.'" Um, okay, just keep telling yourself that.
